Despite gloomy forecast of daily t-storms, rain held off during prime fishing hours and skies were blue and beautiful. We were relieved no one cancelled based on weather predictions – they would have missed a GREAT trip! Both floating and wading were easily navigable and everyone caught fish.
Friday’s Mullet Mixer featured an interesting entomology presentation by Gene Smith, of the Fredericksburg Fly Fishing Club. Live samples of mayflies, dragonflies, damselflies, caddis flies, et al. was engaging and interactive – ask Leslie DeHay, who thumped a mayfly into hatching in front of us! Gene is also organizer of Oktoberfisch (Oct. 15-17), a large gathering of fly fishers and fly fishing clubs and one of TWFF’s informal outings.
The Junction Chamber of Commerce hosted a top-of-the-line fajita dinner on Saturday and Connie Booth, Executive Director, did a terrific job of decorating and setting up a space that worked perfectly for our group. The Chamber was the recipient of our dinner funds, providing a way TWFF can give back to this community that has always been so supportive of our visits. We also had our second silent auction of the year featuring lots of great gear and fishing related items.
Thanks to everyone who attended this outing – it was a lot of fun both in, and out of the water!
