Thirty-four members of Texas Women Fly Fishers descended on the Paluxy River in Glen Rose the last weekend in April – and we all caught fish! Or, as
our esteemed president Rozlynn Orr put it, “If you didn’t catch any, you’d better keep quiet.”Sean Polk, fishing manager for Orvis in Dallas, joked that the Paluxy River is something he likes to keep quiet in the store – because he doesn’t want the secret to spread too far. As our Friday night speaker, Sean gave us detailed instructions on where to find the good holes, and then followed his talk with a casting contest outside our headquarters motel. Leslie DeHay won – against odds that included growing darkness and heavy wind. Our scrumptious Mullet Mixer as well as our Saturday night Italian dinner were in the America’s Best Value breakfast room – with the help of additional tables
carted to Glen Rose by members. It was cozy, but it worked. And we had our first silent auction that raised funds for our club and Casting for Recovery.
From co-chairs Debbie Price and Diana Kunde – “Muchas gracias” to Joyce Davis and Roz for the flies in our goodie bags, to our genial and patient innkeeper, to Cindy Organ for setting up a great auction, and to all who helped make this fishing expedition a success.
“Fecund” might be a good word for the Paluxy. Its limestone shelves and wooded surroundings made it a joy to wade (in spite of the snakes, Janice!). In addition to scores of spotted bass, largemouth and sunnies that we caught and released, Sheila Anderson landed a personal best large bass.
These anglers attended: Sheila Anderson, Jan Bates, Annette Blythe, Barbara and Rick Booth, Pat and Don Carlson, Joyce Davis, Leslie DeHay, Tracy Doty, Frances Estes, Debbie and Danny Fox, Susan Franks, Kathy Goodlett, Britta and Greg Hebert, Pam Holland, Mary Kain, Diana Kunde, Karen Mitchell, Debbie Morelock, Cindy Organ, Rozlynn Orr, Debbie Price, Teresa Powell, Keira Quam, Kay Robbins, Sheila and Greg Setter, Kerri Stephenson, Janice Togal, Neil West, and Linda Whiddon.
