A great time was had by all at the Bend, TX outing! We had our first encounter with Bad Bob (of Bad Bob’s Bend Store www.badbobsbendstore.net) on Thursday night. He’s a local DJ, lead guitarist, singer in his band, owner of the only store in town and a hill country treasure! Bad Bob does it all! Including serving up the best, baddest burgers in Texas…over 10 dozen sold!

Friday dawned sunny and beautiful as everyone arrived and settled in, then hit the Colorado river with rods and flies. There was great food and fun at the Mullet Mixer Friday night. Thanks to all who provided the delicious fare. Keith Barnes, local guide and owner of Highland Lakes Fly Fishing, http://www.highlandlakesflyfishing.com/, came and gave us valuable information about which flies would be good and where to locate fish.
We got off to an early start on Saturday catching smaller bluegills and bass, but the day turned out nice. Linda Whiddon caught the most fish (on her new hand-crafted rod), while Jan Bates, Leslie DeHay and Greg Setter hooked into good-sized carp. Kevin Archer and his son caught a nice bass.
Greg Setter and the carp he caught on a 3 wt. rod.

Saturday night was a blast at Bad Bob’s Bend Store and the hamburgers, fries and onion rings were definitely worth the trip out.
Jan Bates and her gaspergou.
We were also provided with a little outlaw country music as Bob and his band tuned up and played us some old favorites. We even got Jan to help him out on Johnny Cash’s Folsom Prison…she sure can sing!
