What a great weekend to have our 10th Anniversary Party! About 40 die-hard TWFF members journeyed to Oklahoma to the great trout waters of the Lower Mountain Fork River. River levels were exceedingly low due to remaining repairs being made after the last great flood that greatly recontoured the river within the banks of the park back in May 2009. However, members were able to get on fish and go home with some piscatorial memories after a full weekend of fishing and visiting with friends.
Our speaker for our Friday night Mullet Mixer was Phil Respin of the East Texas Fly Fishers. Phil presented one of the most informative programs on “Reading Trout Streams” that I have seen. We also divided up into 2 teams and were challenged by answering trout fishing, habitat, and gear questions. What an easy way to learn and retain information. Phil also gave us a brief overview of the waters he guides in Canada through Blue Bronna Outfitters.
Way down upon the Lower Mountain Fork River,
TWFF ventured for a weekend bash.
All rods were strung and nets were ready,
Down by the shores with the trout.
After Phil’s presentation, we toasted to TWFF’s 10th Anniversary as a fly fishing club and what good fortune we have to belong to a club that has grown so large from the inception of a few women just ten years ago. We had an anniversary cake, a little bubbly, goldfish and roasted almonds in keeping with the theme of Fish n’ Nuts. Everyone came away with an anniversary grab bag with gifts that ranged from cool to zany.
Saturday we fished hard and met for a group picture by Evening Hole. It was great to see so many of our members there. Visit our Photo Gallery for all the great outing shots.
We were joined by quite a few new members and they also were able to catch fish. This demonstrates what our club is all about; mentoring women in the sport of fly fishing and seeing our efforts pay off.
Once again, TWFF puts the fun and friendship into fly fishing! Below are a few responses from our members regarding the outing.

This was a perfect trip. I especially liked the fact that a guide was available for the newbies to help catch us up to the level of the playing field. I learned so much from the speaker too.
Great trip! – Barbara W.
Great trip! Secluded Acres was perfect and provided the best accommodations and meeting area! Gets my vote as the best Broken Bow trip! – Debbie P.
Wonderful weekend at Broken Bow! It was like a hatch of women everywhere in the park! Amazing to see that many women on the water. – Diane B.

“The sun shining, the river flowing, the sounds of a angler casting her line to catch a fish all sums up a great weekend at BROKEN BOW with the Texas Women Fly Fishers. All I can say is what great women and what a wonderful organization to be a part of! I am blessed to meet so many talented fly fishing women who share the same sport and art of fly fishing like I do. Our trip to Broken Bow was a great success and the fishing was terrific! It was wonderful that Jesse and Linda King from Three Rivers Fly Shop were able to put together some guided trips for our members and help them with catching fish.”
“For those who want to become a member of TWFF, I say, JOIN TODAY, because the trips are wonderful and fun, the people are the greatest and even more fun, but the FISHING just puts the icing of the cake!” – Kimberly P.

These statements are what fly fishing is all about. Thanks to everyone for coming and for those that donated hand-tied flies, indicators, and presents for the outing! It was a great weekend for our seasoned members and for our new members.
Can’t wait for a repeat showdown next year at Lower Mountain Fork with running waters and healthy fish!
