Texas Women Fly Fishers were well
represented in Athens at Fly Fish Texas. Let’s all thank the
following women for volunteering their time for our service: Rozlynn
Orr, Frances Estes, Glenna Noret, Mary K. Janco, Jan Bates, Debbie
Price, Sheila Anderson, and Karla Grimwood. We sold flies,
cookbooks, chums, and took monetary donations for Casting for
Recovery®,
and earned nearly $500. Fly Fish Texas has historically been one of
our best public fundraisers benefiting CFR, and this year was no
exception.
At this all-day event, anglers from
novice to expert, including two of our own—
Jan Schonefeld and Carolyn Vierheller, gathered at TFFC to celebrate
the sport of fly fishing. One could learn the basics of fly tying
and casting, then fish for rainbow trout in on-site ponds and
streams. TPWD held seminars and demonstrations led by fly-fishing
professionals. Fly-fishing clubs from across Texas were on hand to
help anyone who wanted to learn or improve existing skills. TWFF had
volunteer casting coaches working with Al Crise, FFF Master Casting
Instructor, and also with a handful of FFF Certified Casting
Instructors. We were given the opportunity to learn to teach from
some of our state’s best casters.
It is the generosity of the visitors to
this event that make it so successful for us. We had the largest
selection of flies to sell ever, mostly tied by our members—Roz
Orr being the biggest donor this year. Thanks again to all the
ladies who made this year so successful.
