We gathered in large numbers at the
Summit on the Guadalupe in January for our annual membership and
officer election meeting. Without knowing the exact number of
people, I would guess at least 40 members including family were in
attendance. Several new members joined our group at this outing, we
were pleased to have one woman come all the way from Arkansas.
It seems as if the Guadalupe River has
never been very kind to us in January. Once again no trout were
caught. Linda Love caught the only fish, while Betty Burleson landed
an ultra light spinning rod and reel with the price tag still in
tact. Although, for the first time in our history the flow of the
river was a very reasonable rate for wade fishing at about 120 cfs.
(In the past, the lowest the flow has ever been was 380 cfs in
January 2004.) A cold front came through one day early bringing
Saturday morning temperatures down to a very cold 28 degrees. It
warmed up fairly quickly, but the fish were not active. One new
member, Joan Schwartz, tried everything in her fly box without any
luck.
The Summit was as enjoyable as ever with
the nice cabins and large meeting facility. Thank you to Sheila Hood
for arranging this outing place for us. Most members went into
Gruene for lunch and shopping. Gruene Outfitters is always a
popular stop for most members. The ride on River Road to Gruene is
very scenic, one that is always enjoyable.
We enjoyed a catered BBQ dinner on
Saturday evening and followed that up with a very extensive business
meeting. The first of each year is an important time to set outing
schedules and business decisions for the coming year. Everyone’s
participation and patience was very much appreciated.
Sunday came all too quickly and while
some members went fishing, others packed up to head home. Hopefully
the fishing met with better success on Sunday morning.
