2012 TWFF Officers and Trustees

Rozlynn Orr –
President
|
Rozlynn Orr has been the prior VP of fundraising and most recently completed one year as President. She has enjoyed serving on the board and has especially enjoyed her work on our website redesign.
In her words, Roz describes her fishing experiences: "I can't remember a time in my life when I wasn't on the water trying to fish. I come from fishin' stock, with a noodling dad and sunfish-catching mom.” Fly Fish Texas in Athens in 2004 provided the springboard to Roz’ introduction to fly fishing. On a self taught path, two years later she joined TWFF where she met her fly fishing family and friends. “I am happy to serve TWFF and hope to deepen and expand my love of the sport with others.”

Cindy Organ – First
Vice President (Fundraising)
|
Cindy took over for Karla Grimwood at midterm and brings with her a new-found love and appreciation of fly fishing.
Cindy says, “As a native New Yorker (upstate!), I have been fly fishing actively for about a year and a half after attending CFR in Boerne, Texas in 2008, never having fished till then. It's a great fit for me as I love the 'toys' and it forces me to get outside and visit new places while meeting great people.”
Cindy’s pleasant attitude and cheerful smile is a big asset on our board.
Cindy has asked that you please forward any new ideas for our fundraisers to her attention. She is looking forward to a great year and with your help, a very productive year, as well.

Kerri Stephenson –
Second
Vice President (Membership) |
Kerri joined TWFF about nine years ago when her sister, Sheila Anderson, asked her to go fishing with some other ladies on the Guadalupe River.
"That was the first time I ever cast a fly rod. I suited up (did I mention it was about 28 degrees out?), watched my sister light a fire to keep warm, and received some good tips from ladies along side the river. Soon I had my first fish on! Oops fish off, I never did land a fish that day but did end up joining a fantastic fishing club. I have served as both a trustee and vice president of membership during my years in the club."
"I'm fortunate to have a wonderful husband who loves to go fishing with me and to have had not one, but two fly fishing dream trips. I fished the upper Kenai River in Alaska and caught rainbow trout, Dolly Vardin, and salmon. It's a thrill to watch the fish jump while trying to bring it to net. I also fished this past year in Fort Smith, MT on the Bighorn River. I caught many nice brown trout and some of the biggest rainbow trout I had ever seen. What I like best about fly fishing is the thrill of saying "fish on" whether it's a 22" rainbow on the Bighorn or a 9" Guadalupe bass on the Llano River. I get the same little hitch in my breath and excitement in my heart. I love fly fishing!"

Debbie Price – Secretary |
"I’m a Texas girl and have fished all my life, but I had my first experience with fly fishing at a Casting for Recovery outing in Boerne, Texas, in April 2008. Until then, I had never picked up a fly rod or put on a pair of waders."
"My Casting for Recovery river guide was Rozlynn Orr. I bought my first fly rod at Bass Pro Shops right after that outing. It is still my favorite rod! Now I own numerous fly rods and just recently purchased my second pair of waders. I guess you could say that I am “hooked” on fly fishing."
"I attended my first TWFF outing at Purtis Creek in May of 2008 and have missed only a handful of outings since. I am still trying to perfect my cast, but I’m getting there. My brother told me that my casting was “poetry in motion.” Roz jokingly asked me if maybe I misunderstood him and that he actually said “poultry in motion.” Either way, I love fly fishing and have met some wonderful people, many who are now my very good friends. I wouldn’t have missed my Casting for Recovery experience for the world because it opened my eyes to fly fishing, TWFF, and many new friends. I hope to continue fly fishing and my association with TWFF for many years to come!"

Mary Kain –
Treasurer |
My earliest memories of fishing are with my Dad using a pole he cut from riverside reeds. A transplanted “Okie” in my elementary school years, Texas and the Houston area have been my home for w-a-y over half a century. Naturally, w/ the ocean and bays so close, Dad saw we did surf fishing, crabbing, oyster picking, floundering and family vacations were spent camping. I’m fortunate that my enjoyment of out-door adventure is shared—to different degrees--by family: three girls, a wonderful son-in-law and three terrific grandchildren. My treasurer experience has been in holding that position in other organizations of which I am or have been a member.
My path to fly fishing occurred during a Colorado backpacking trip in the mid ‘90s. We were high in the mountains and the campsite was by a “jump-across-wide” stream. The old guide informed us we were “…catching our evening meal if we wanted to eat.” He strung a fly rod—which I had never seen before—with a dry and a dropper, gave it to me, told me to ‘throw’ and, amazingly, before the flies hit the water there were cutthroat trout on both flies. A better intro couldn’t be had. My life with TWFF started (intermittently) in the Constance Whiston era…when TWFF first was formed as an outgrowth of the Becoming An Outdoor Woman (BOW) workshops…and permanently after knees, a.k.a. age, ended my backpacking. I love the outings and having such a great group to share the experience. Fishing Texas rivers and, once again, the Gulf are terrific…my fishing heart beats hardest, however, in a high mountain stream watching for those wily trout.

Annette Blythe – Trustee |
"I
discovered fly fishing during summer trips to Colorado. Watching the
fly fishers got me interested in this artful sport."
"In
2001, I attended a presentation by Sally Moffet at the Texas Fly
Fishers meeting, which I read about in the paper….Decided I had to
learn to do that, and went to the meeting. I joined the Texas Fly
Fishers that night and found out about the Texas Women Fly Fishers
through Sally Moffet."
"I was
hooked."
"I
served as Treasurer for TWFF in 2002, and I attend as many TWFF
outings as I can while I'm in Houston. I spend my summers in
Colorado where there are many great fishing opportunities less than
70 miles away from my summer home. I’m able to walk to the Arkansas
River, which is just down the road from my place."
"I hike
and bike with a group in Buena Vista, Colorado, and I am a member of
the Collegiate Peaks Chapter of Trout Unlimited. We do a lot of
volunteer activities like working with kids, clean ups, stocking,
etc."
"I have
10 grandchildren, and I’m presently teaching my 10-year-old
granddaughter to fly fish. This summer, she will spend a week in
Colorado with me, and I look forward to seeing her catch a fish on a
fly"

Frances Estes – Trustee
|
Frances joined TWFF in 2006 after her introduction to fly fishing at Fly Fish Texas in Athens in 2004. Having little prior fishing experience, Frances is more of a fly fishing purist, enjoying the use of artificial flies as compared to live bait and she enjoys the catch and release aspect of the sport. She is also very conservation-minded and is a member of several fishing clubs and organizations in support of wildlife, fishing, and conservation.
Frances fishes warm and cold waters, and at the coast. Most adored are those clear Hill Country rivers and creeks, abundant with Rio Grande cichlids, sunfish, and bass.
Frances is looking forward to working more closely with membership, sharing her love of the gentle sport, and aligning TWFF as a conservation partner.

Britta Hebert – Trustee

"I was introduced to fly fishing when my sister, husband, and I attended a beginner's fly fishing class in May 2010 during a visit to California. It was a really fun experience -- the instructor was great and we were casting in a grassy, open park as we learned the basics. I'm so glad my sister suggested the class! With my newfound enthusiasm for this intriguing sport and the prospect of getting outdoors, I started looking for fly-fishing clubs and opportunities when I returned home to San Antonio. I had been looking for something to get my mind off my busy work life as a project manager. I wanted to get myself out into nature on the weekends, relax and meet some fun people.
Voilà! There was the TWFF website with its wealth of information, pictures, and friendly faces!!! I attended my first TWFF outing in September 2010 to the South Llano River and had a blast catching several sunfish, cichlids, and smallmouth bass. It has been such a great experience being part of the TWFF group and learning to fly fish. I just love meeting new people, being outdoors, getting in the water and feeling the tug of the fly line when the fish bite!
Ever since that first outing, I've mainly caught sunfish and just a couple of smallmouth bass. I think I'll call myself "Queen of the Sunfish" since sunfish seem to be the only ones that want to latch on to my flies! I'm looking forward to improved casting and catching in the coming years, as well as the wonderful camaraderie of the Texas Women Fly Fishers!"
